Trichy Corporation is hoping to repeat its success with green corridor and solar power generation in 2018-19 like it did with Solid Waste Management (SWM).
The civic body’s budget envisages four Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) corridors to bring down the carbon footprints in city limits. The recent budget has allotted a sum of Rs 17.76 crore for establishing four NMT corridors along Bharathidasan Road, Rajaram Road (KK Nagar), Wireless Road, and Rockins Road.
Funds close to Rs 8 crore were said to be available with the civic body for initiating the corridors to be established before March 2019. Plans are also on way for bicycle sharing system in select spots under Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
The other promising initiative mentioned in the budget was to set up a solar park in Panchapur. It also aims to promote solar power generation in the corporation offices at an estimated cost of Rs 1.37 crore.
The electricity generated from the proposed solar power park will be supplied to the TANGEDCO’s grid. Equal amount of power will be availed free of cost.
The projects that were facing fund crunch have been augmented to the Smart City Mission for ensuring funds.
