GAIL India Limited and AM Green (AMG) have joined forces to create solar-wind hybrid power plants in India. These plants will have a total capacity of up to 2.5 gigawatts. Additionally, they will explore using carbon dioxide from GAIL’s gas processing plants to make e-methanol with renewable energy.
The solar-wind hybrid projects will include energy storage systems. This means they can provide power 24/7. This power will be used to produce e-methanol by AMG and for other operations. The ammonia produced will meet the European Union’s standards for renewable fuels made from non-biological sources. Their facility in Kakinada is already certified for this, and others are in the process.
In September 2024, RWE Supply & Trading and AMG signed an agreement for 250,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year. This ammonia will come from AMG’s Indian facilities.
In May 2024, GAIL India Limited started its first green hydrogen plant in Vijaipur, Madhya Pradesh. This plant can produce 4.3 tonnes of hydrogen per day. The hydrogen is very pure, with 99.999% purity.
