Jakson Green Inks $465M Green Ammonia Deal Under Hydrogen Mission

Jakson Green Inks $465M Green Ammonia Deal Under Hydrogen Mission
Email :

India’s clean energy ambitions received a fresh push as Jakson Green Limited signed a major green ammonia purchase agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). As a result, the deal supports supplies to Coromandel International Limited in Kakinada under the government’s flagship hydrogen initiative.

The agreement, valued at nearly $465 million, ranks among the largest green ammonia procurement contracts under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). Moreover, SECI awarded the contract through a competitive bidding process. Earlier, it issued the Letter of Award in August 2025.

The program falls under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) scheme. Notably, it marks India’s first structured effort to scale demand for green hydrogen derivatives. Therefore, the aim is clear: costs must fall and domestic production must rise.

Green ammonia is seen as a critical fuel for decarbonising fertilizers. India currently imports large volumes of ammonia derived from fossil fuels. According to the International Energy Agency, conventional ammonia production contributes nearly 1.8% of global CO₂ emissions. Cleaner alternatives are now being prioritized.

Jakson Green’s supply will feed into fertilizer production at Coromandel’s coastal facility. The shift will reduce carbon intensity across the value chain. Industry analysts say such agreements are essential if India aims to become a global export hub for green fuels.

“This agreement reflects our commitment to scalable green solutions,” said Bikesh Ogra, Vice Chairman and Global CEO of Jakson Green. The company aims to strengthen domestic capabilities in green hydrogen and ammonia.

India has set an ambitious target. Specifically, the country plans to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 under NGHM. Therefore, officials say demand-side incentives like SIGHT are critical to achieving that goal.

Jakson Green is also expanding its footprint. It is developing two green hydrogen projects of 5,000 tonnes per annum each for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited. These projects will support refinery decarbonisation.

Meanwhile, engineering projects are underway. In addition, the company is executing integrated facilities involving ethanol, carbon capture, and hydrogen production. Together, these projects offer combined capacities of 10 TPD ethanol, 25 TPD carbon capture, and 3 TPD hydrogen.

Yet challenges remain. Green hydrogen costs are still two to three times higher than fossil-based alternatives, according to industry estimates. Policy support will be key. Scale will determine success.

India’s clean energy transition is moving forward. Deals like this suggest momentum is building. The real test will be execution.
