This year, the state-owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) plans to build a 240-MW renewable power plant at a cost of Rs 600 crore. In Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, they want to build 240 MW of solar and wind energy projects.
At BPCL’s facilities, around 50 MW of solar projects are already under construction. The corporation is aiming for a captive requirement of roughly 350 MW for its refineries first. It is looking into both organic and inorganic possibilities.
By 2040, BPCL will have offset Scope 1 and 2 emissions from refining activities and energy usage. Thus, it aims to scale up its renewable energy portfolio from less than 50 megawatts today to 1 gigawatt by 2025 and 10 gigawatts by 2040.
