Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) will set up its first organic waste converter behind the Gauhati Medical College (GMCH) and Hospital premises.
In the plant, waste will be converted to compost. The project will cover the whole of Bhangagarh along with the GMCH, where a large amount of organic waste is produced everyday.
The project will mainly cover kitchen waste, which is bio-degradable. The plant will take around 15 to 20 days to convert the waste to compost and in one period, it will produce one tonne of compost from 2.5 tonnes of waste.
The construction of the site is complete and will be operational within a month.It has been set up at a cost of Rs 44 lakh.
