The Indian government has approved the establishment of eight solar power projects in the state of Uttar Pradesh.The Uttar Pradesh Non-Conventional Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) and the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) will collaborate to create eight solar power parks with a total capacity of 4,995 megawatts. For this reason, the two corporations have formed a joint venture named Bundelkhand Saur Urja.
The largest of these solar parks, with a capacity of 1.2 gigawatt, will be built in Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh. 14 of the 22 gigawatts of capacity is planned to be added in the form of solar power parks, 6 gigawatts through rooftop solar power projects, and 2 gigawatts through agri solar projects.
The construction of these solar power parks will almost certainly be part of the state government’s ambitious plan to build 22 gigawatts of solar power capacity over the next five years.
Incentives for the construction of solar power parks and large-scale projects are also included in the Uttar Pradesh governments program. For the next 30 years, the government will lease land for solar power parks at a very low cost.
Furthermore, these projects will be excluded from some taxes related with land acquisition. In addition, the government would pay a capita subsidy for the construction of transmission infrastructure for new solar power installations.
