According to recent industry data, BYD delivered around 2.26 million fully electric vehicles in 2025, representing approximately a 28 % increase in annual EV sales, while Tesla’s deliveries declined to about 1.64 million vehicles, an 8.6 % year-on-year drop. This marks the first time that Tesla — long synonymous with EV leadership — has been unseated on a full-year basis by another manufacturer.
The growing dominance of BYD reflects strong demand both within China and in international markets.
