Cybertruck sales 2025

Tesla Cybertruck Sales Falter Sharply In 2025

Tesla’s highly anticipated Cybertruck experienced a dramatic sales drop in 2025. According to data from automotive analysts, Tesla sold about 20,000 Cybertrucks worldwide in 2025, down nearly 50% from 2024’s ~39,000 units. This makes the decline one of the steepest among all electric vehicles on sale in the U.S. this year.

Initially, Tesla CEO Elon Musk projected the Cybertruck could reach annual sales of 250,000 units. However, actual deliveries lagged far behind these targets. Industry figures show that in 2025, the Cybertruck sold around 16,000–20,000 units, representing a sharp reduction from previous years.

Sales fell most sharply in the fourth quarter, with registrations dropping by around 68% year-over-year. This suggests that demand weakened as competition intensified and consumer preferences shifted. Quality issues also hurt the Cybertruck’s reputation. Multiple recalls impacted significant numbers of vehicles, including safety and structural concerns.

Meanwhile, mainstream Tesla models such as the Model 3 and Model Y continued to dominate EV sales charts in 2025, pointing to broader market resilience outside of the pickup segment.

Tesla also responded with marketing incentives, such as price promotions and lease deals, attempting to revive interest.

Implication for EV Market:
The Cybertruck’s sales slump highlights the challenges of launching niche EV formats. High pricing, polarizing design, and quality issues have dampened demand. For the broader clean energy transition, this signals that innovation must be balanced with mainstream appeal and reliability.
