The state of Kerala has allocated Rs 0.9 billion for the first stage of the green hydrogen valley and over Rs 124 billion for green transport corridor projects. The allocated budget will be used to set up three hydrogen valley platforms that cover the entire process of producing, distributing, and transporting hydrogen.

The state of Kerala plans to establish two green hydrogen valleys in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. The Department of Science and Technology has received a proposal for the Kochi valley and is currently preparing a proposal for the Vizhinjam project.
The European Commission and 23 other countries have launched Mission Innovation to promote research and development in sustainable energy. The Department of Science and Technology is accepting applications from organizations to establish hydrogen valleys. Kerala also aims to convert its main transport routes, such as the west coast canal and coastal and hill highways, into environmentally friendly trade routes.

Kerala’s west coast canal project has a total cost of Rs 124 billion, with Rs 24 billion allocated for it and Rs 3 billion for land acquisition. The hill highway project is estimated to cost Rs 35 billion, while the coastal highway project would cost Rs 65 billion. There are plans to set up a network for hydrogen and electric vehicle charging infrastructure along the Vizhinjam to Kochi corridor.
The coastal highway project is expected to be finished by 2027 and connects several ports along the coast. The acquisition of 68 pieces of land covering 181 acres has started for this project. The hill highway project is predicted to be completed by 2026.

The state government is identifying areas for economic growth along the west coast canal and coastal roadways in order to attract investments through the PPP mode. They are also working on plans for transit-oriented development in these areas.
