Luvly O: The World’s First Flat-Pack Electric Car

Luvly O

A Swedish manufacturer is trying to bring IKEA’s space-saving and super cheap flat pack furniture concept to the world of cars. A Stockholm startup called Luvly just revealed an electric car that can be shipped in flat pack form.

The company came up with this super cute 992-pound electric two-seater “microcar” called the Luvly O. It can go up to 62 miles on a single charge and reach a top speed of 55 mph.

The main difference with IKEA, unfortunately, is that even though it can fit easily in the back of a truck when it’s taken apart, it has to be assembled by a real car factory before it can be sent to customers to make sure it meets all the safety standards and regulations.

IKEA had a big role in shaping the Luvly O’s development, as the startup wants to do for cars what IKEA did for furniture – providing affordable, stylish designs that are accessible to everyone. By the way, when the Luvly O is finally on the market next year, the company hopes to sell it for about $10,500, give or take.

The frame of the O is made of padded aluminum and plastic foam, so it can absorb forces if there’s a crash. Plus, you can easily swap out the battery, which makes it super convenient for everyday commuters.
