Indian-government owned aluminum major, National Aluminium Company (Nalco) will build renewable power plants with a combined capacity of 150MW in Odisha.
An announcement in this regard was made by Indian Minister for State for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines Piyush Goyal. The Minister was speaking during a programme in connection with the dedication of 198MW wind plants of Nalco to the nation.
The wind power projects include 50.4MW plant at Gandikota in Andhra Pradesh, 47.6MW Ludarwa and 50MW Devikot facilities, both in Rajasthan, and Jath of 50.4MW in Maharashtra.

Nalco chairman and managing director T K Chand was quoted as saying: “I am thankful to the Centre for allocating two coal blocks and bridge linkage coal to Nalco. With these, the problems of raw material securitization and availability of power for expanding capacities have been solved.”
During the event related to the 198MW portfolio, Nalco had inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar in Odisha state on research and development under its Industry-Institution Interaction programme.
The aluminum company also signed a MoU with state-owned Midhani for high-end aluminium products to cut down imports of such items.
