Urban Plantation Is Being Promoted In Delhi NCR For Combating Air Pollution

The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR & Adjoining Areas (CAQM) is dedicated to enhancing the green cover of the National Capital Region (NCR). With valuable contributions from the NCR State Governments/GNCTD, the target for plantation for the year 2023-24, encompassing trees, shrubs, and bamboo, has been meticulously decided upon which is mentioned as under:-

These efforts will result in a greener tomorrow for the NCR.

Greening is a crucial measure in mitigating air pollution, and the Commission has placed significant emphasis on implementing sweeping initiatives such as large-scale greening, dense plantation, and urban foresting – like the Miyawaki Technique – throughout NCR. These efforts are essential to creating a healthier and more sustainable environment for all.

Through meetings held with the respective NCR State Governments/ GNCTD, the progress of activities aimed at bolstering green coverage for the year 2022-23 was assessed. NCR achieved 105.36% of the original targets set for plantation drive for the year 2022-23. As of 31.03.2023 a commendable percentage of the initial target was achieved, as is clear from the table below:-

In the current year, educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and research institutions in NCR, have been asked to take an active role in promoting greening and plantation initiatives in their surroundings. To this end, these institutions have been advised to establish dense plantation barricades along the boundaries of their premises.

Similarly, industrial units have also been adviced to establish such barricades along the boundaries of their respective units. This approach not only enhances the aesthetic value of the surroundings but also serves as a practical solution to combat environmental degradation.
