NTPC Green Energy Commissions 300 MW Bhadla Solar PV Project

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has started commercial operations of a 300 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project at Bhadla Solar Park in Phalodi, Rajasthan. The project reached its first operational milestone on January 13, 2026, and was certified soon after by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd (RRECL).

This initial 300 MW is part of a larger 500 MW planned capacity at the Bhadla site. Out of the total planned capacity, this tranche now feeds clean power into the northern grid.

Moreover, this commissioning also contributed to NGEL’s growing utility-scale solar footprint. With the addition, NTPC Green Energy’s installed commercial capacity rose from about 8,010 MW to roughly 8,310 MW across solar, wind, and hybrid projects nationwide.

The project is located in the Thar Desert region of Rajasthan, known for its high solar irradiance and flat terrain. These conditions support efficient energy generation and continuous output.

In addition, the Bhadla Solar PV Project enhances grid stability. It supplies renewable electricity to a region that historically relied on coal-based power. Thus, it supports India’s broader renewable goals and helps reduce carbon emissions. The larger Bhadla Solar Park itself is one of the world’s most significant solar installations, with over 2,245 MW capacity across multiple developers and phases.

Going forward, NGEL plans to complete the remaining 200 MW of the Bhadla project. Once finished, the full capacity will further bolster India’s renewable energy supply and contribute to national emission-reduction targets.
