China’s CETC starts work on 200MW PV Factory in India

Beijing-based China Electronics Technology Group Corp (CETC) on Thursday kicked off construction on a 200-MW solar cell manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh, India.

CETC India expects construction of the plant to take between 18 and 20 months. Commissioning of the facility will take place by the last quarter of next year.

The photovoltaic (PV) cells manufacturing base will be installed in Sri City, in the state’s Chittoor district, at a cost of INR 3.2 billion (USD 49m/EUR 40m). Covering an area of 18 acres, the project is expected to open jobs for 300 people in its first phase.

The state government is expected to get USD 8 million in taxes each year following completion of the project, it was announced previously. CETC signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the project with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) in January.
