In order to attract tourist to Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh Industrial Tourism Corporation (CITCO) has introduced ‘solar-powered night cruise boat rides. The visitors can now enjoy the night ride from 7.30 pm every evening in addition to the regular boating hours. The cruise ride with a capacity of about 30 people has been started about 8 months ago but most remained unaware of it.

The cruise at Sukhna Lake is a solar-powered boat. At night, it goes all blue as it is beautified with blue strips of lights at all its corners which makes it visible in the dark.

The 25-seater boat ride can be enjoyed for Rs 300 per person for one trip lasting for about 30 minutes and people also have the choice to hire the entire cruise. A CITCO official said, “This concept of after-sunset boating in ‘solar powered cruise boat’ is supporting the green concept as from past many years the running of fuel-engine-powered boats for public has been discontinued.”

In the night cruise boat, the drive to the engine is given through solar energy. The cruise is also fitted with battery-backup and has proper lighting arrangement for night.
