Pune Unit of Navratna PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) will manufacture Li-ion battery packs for Triton’s electric trucks in the United States. As part of the MoU, the two companies will investigate manufacturing of battery cells in India for Energy Storage Systems and electric vehicles in the Heavy Vehicle segment for customers in the United States, India, and rest of the world.
Triton has inked another MoU with the Gujarat State Government to establish an EV Truck Manufacturing Plant, with a pledge to invest around Rs 10,800 Crores over a five-year period. BEL is one of five companies that will invest in the Triton EV manufacturing cluster in Bhuj, Gujarat.
BEL is developing non-defense commercial interests such as energy storage devices for electric cars such as Li-ion and Fuel Cells, Charging Stations, and so on. The business has acquired the technology for Li-Ion cells and is constructing a cutting-edge manufacturing plant.
Triton has been rather busy on the MoU front, striking agreements with BEL, Telangana, and now Gujarat. Talwar Auto Garages had even placed a $300 million contract for 2000 of the company’s Electric semi trucks for usage in South India.
The collaboration between BEL and Triton is expected to offer a significant boost to the government’s Make in India effort and EV impetus in the road towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat project.
