India’s solar power is on the rise! By December 2023, a significant amount of utility-scale solar power plants, totaling 60.9 GW, were already operational. Additionally, there’s a promising pipeline of projects with completed auctions for another 64 GW.

Looking state-wise, Rajasthan leads the pack with an impressive 17.4 GW of installed solar capacity, followed by Karnataka (8.9 GW) and Gujarat (6.9 GW). 2023 was a bright year for solar additions in India.

Over 6.5 GW of utility-scale projects and 3 GW of rooftop solar capacity were installed. Rajasthan again emerged as the top performer, adding a noteworthy 2.4 GW, followed by Gujarat (1.3 GW) and Maharashtra (0.9 GW).

The future looks even brighter! India is expecting a significant boost in solar power with an estimated 15.9 GW of new utility-scale projects and 4.2 GW of rooftop/onsite projects slated for commissioning in the coming year (CY2024). This surge in solar power will play a crucial role in India’s clean energy transition.
